Success By Six

Success By 6

Success By 6 Resource Centers aim to ensure our youngest learners are healthy, safe, nurtured and enter school ready to succeed.

What is it?

From the moment they’re born, children are wired to learn. Research shows that 90 percent of the brain’s growth occurs by age 6. United Way Success By 6 Resource Centers aim to ensure every young child in our community is healthy, safe, nurtured and enters school ready to succeed.

Built around partnerships with local school districts and early childhood centers, Success By 6 Resource Centers are currently located on-site at 17 locations across the region.

How does it work?

The centers provide a Toy and Resource Lending Library filled with educational toys and books appropriate for children birth to age 6. All play sessions and materials are available for checkout free of charge. The centers are an important support for parents – especially parents with limited resources and those who faced their own educational attainment challenges.

What issues does it address?

Children who have the opportunity to build stable, nurturing relationships are typically better prepared for school and demonstrate the characteristics essential for a strong workforce and a healthy community, such as self-confidence, ability to work cooperatively with others, initiative and persistence in learning. The support, guidance and resources parents receive at Success By 6 Centers to assist their children’s growth is invaluable. Parents who have used the resource centers say they have learned how to:

  • Get respect from their child
  • Develop a discipline plan
  • Deal with a hyperactive child
  • Spend time one-on-one with their child
  • Be the best parent or caregiver they can be
